- Prilosec is a prescription and over-the-counter proton pump inhibitor available in multiple countries including the United States and Canada. It was first marketed in 1990. It is available in an Oral Capsule, delayed release, an Oral Granule, delayed release, and an Oral Tablet, delayed release. It contains one active ingredient: Omeprazole, in its salt form Omeprazole magnesium. Omeprazole is a medication used to improve the symptoms of heartburn, and to treat related conditions such as ulcers, tissue damage and infection with the bacteria called H. pylori.
