Part of the ABC transporter complex OppABCDF involved in the uptake of oligopeptides, including the cell wall murein tripeptide L-alanyl-gamma-D-glutamyl-meso-diaminopimelate (PubMed:2821267, PubMed:3301822). Plays an important nutritional role and is involved in the recycling of cell wall peptides (PubMed:2821267, PubMed:3301822). Binds peptides containing from two to five amino acid residues regardless of their sequence (PubMed:10438628, PubMed:8202710, PubMed:8747465, PubMed:8946852, PubMed:9245406). Also binds cell wall peptides, such as L-alanyl-gamma-D-glutamyl-meso-diaminopimelate (PubMed:3301822).
