GR270773 is a protein-free, phospholipid-rich emulsion that neutralizes bacterial lipopolysaccaride in vitro. High density lipoprotein (HDL) has both anti-inflammatory effects and binds lipopolysaccaride (LPS), an endotoxin composed of a lipid and polysaccharide linked by a covalent bond. LPS occurs in the outer membrane of gram negative bacteria which cause severe infections and sepsis. GR270773’s probable mechanism of action is via a major apolipoprotein of HDL, ApoA-I, which binds to LPS.
