Gadoquatrane is a low-dose tetrameric macrocyclic gadolinium-based contrast agent for contrast-enhanced MRI of CNS and body lesions in adults and children. Like other gadolinium agents it is paramagnetic, developing a magnetic moment in the scanner's field that alters the relaxation of nearby water protons and brightens tissues with abnormal vascularity.

Gadoquatrane is a tetrameric, macrocyclic Gd complex with one inner-sphere water molecule per Gd (q=1). Like other GBCAs, it enhances MRI by shortening T1 relaxation of nearby water protons after extracellular distribution, increasing signal intensity in regions where the agent is present. Its tetrameric structure contributes high relaxivity, while macrocyclic chelation provides high complex stability.
