18F-PSMA-1007 is a fluorine-18-labeled PSMA-targeting diagnostic radiopharmaceutical indicated for PET imaging of PSMA-positive lesions in adults with persistent or biochemical recurrent prostate cancer. A radioactive imaging agent given by injection before a PET scan to help locate prostate cancer that has come back after treatment.
- Mechanism
- Curator reviewed · 4 references
[18F]PSMA-1007 is a diagnostic agent consisting of a Glu-urea-Lys PSMA-targeting moiety radiolabeled with fluorine-18. It binds PSMA with high nanomolar affinity; PSMA is characteristically overexpressed 100 to 1000-fold in prostate cancer compared with normal organs and tissues. [18F]PSMA-1007 is internalized after binding, which enhances its accumulation in prostate cancer cells. Fluorine-18 is a positron (β+)-emitting radionuclide that allows imaging by PET/CT.
