Bivalirudin is a direct thrombin inhibitor used to treat heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and to prevent thrombosis during percutaneous coronary intervention. Bivalirudin is a synthetic 20 residue peptide (thrombin inhibitor) which reversibly inhibits thrombin.
