Aceclidine is a cholinergic muscarinic agonist which began marketing in Europe in the 1970s for the treatment of glaucoma.¹ It has also been studied in the treatment of presbyopia, a common age-related vision loss where the crystalline lens hardens and loses elasticity, impairing near vision.³ As compared to less selective miotics, like pilocarpine, aceclidine's relative stimulation of the ciliary muscle is significantly less and, as such, induces far less myopic shift, lens thickening, and lens anterior displacement, leading to reduced risk of retina or vitreous tractions.²

Aceclidine was approved the US FDA in July 2025 for the treatment of adult patients with presbyopia.⁴
